Divine Living In Florence & My Heart In Rome

I’m listening to Morcheeba today – a gorgeous blast from the past that my friend Ruby from The Holistic Directory reminded me of yesterday.  Such soulful tunes, perfect for this time of year with dreamy summer vibes…

Their song ‘Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day’ came on just as I was live in our Bodhi Babes Facebook tribe, which reminded me of two things – first of all the theme of this week, which has all been about trusting the process and recognising that no one gets to avoid the work – you can read my last blog ‘Heart & Hustle Of Business’ for more on this.

I also realised that I will be in Rome in 2 weeks!! Yeeewwww!  I am SO excited about this as I used to live in Rome and I haven’t been back in 12 years!  I’m thrilled to be going back to visit this incredible city that will always have a piece of my heart.  So many great memories & friends made and so much joy – a life-changing year that I’ll never forget.

I was just 22 when I lived in Rome and I did so on a budget, living and working in a hostel, sharing a dorm with some of the best friends I’ve ever had and meeting, partying and exploring, with people from all over the world, every day – we had a blast!

This trip to Italy will be very different but I’m so looking forward to going back to this amazing city, to visit some great friends and the incredible Yellow Hostel (although this time the new and trendy hotel) where I had so much fun as a young adult.

And first to Florence, another city I’m in love with, where I’ll be meeting up with my amazing mentor, Gina Devee and my gorgeous Divine Living Academy sisters, for an incredible 3 day mastermind in one of THE most stunning 5 star hotels, right on the river Arno.  Oh the difference 12 years makes!

I feel so blessed to be able to work in this way, all I need today is my laptop, wifi and I’m good to go…. to Italy, to LA, to NYC, to Miami, to Paris, just the trips I have booked in so far for this year. I’ve created this business and lifestyle by design and am so in love with everything I do.  The beautiful women I get to work with, who inspire me every day, the ability to write, create, coach, host stunning workshops, speak at incredible events and travel often.

I wish the same for you too….

The road hasn’t always been easy and I’m still very much on the journey, it’s all about the journey! But I’ve overcome anxiety, depression and panic attacks, to getting super clear on my desires, with a mindset to support my success, the self-belief to create it, knowing the actions to take and having support from incredible mentors and a tribe of high-vibe, supportive #BodhiBabes.  If I can do it, so can you!  With clarity, the right mindset, inspired action and support, you can create the business and life you dream of.

I share some of the tools and practices that have helped me to create this business and lifestyle in my new video series, which I’d love to gift to you.  Click on the image below to download Passion, Purpose & Profits – 4 Steps To Attract Your Dream Clients & Manifest More Money.

Here’s to the freedom you desire and deserve!

Love, Lou xx

The Heart & Hustle Of Business

“Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.” – Barack Obama

With more and more people setting up online businesses and the popularity of social media marketing, it seems that everyone is now an overnight success.  So how do they do it?  What do they have that you don’t?

If you’re in business and feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and on the verge of burnout and giving up, this post is for you!

The first thing that’s important to keep in mind is that social media feeds are a showreel.  A carefully curated feed of images, quotes and copy that best represents the brand, company and individual.  We’re all human (accept you androids reading this) and we’re all subject to the trials and tribulations of life.  We all feel deeply, we all have multi-faceted lives, families, relationships, bills to pay and well, shit happens.

So take what you see online with a pinch of salt and keep in mind some may be hugely over inflating their showreels and others may be living their dream but there is rarely such a thing as an overnight success and in my opinion that’s not sustainable anyway – ever noticed that people who win large sums of money in the lottery often lose it all very quickly? – There’s a reason for that… They’ve probably not prepared for it.

So how do you prepare for ‘success’ and what’s the difference between those who have it (and keep it) and those who don’t – yet?

Work.  Time served.  Commitment.  Dedication.  Focus.  Perseverance. Heart & Hustle.

No one gets to avoid the work.  What you don’t often get to see on social media feeds are the loooooooong hours, weeks, months and years of preparation that goes into a successful business or project.  The sweat, blood, tears, tantrums and tiaras – hello princess style strop!  Erhem, I’ve never had one of those.

So if you’re just getting started in business and you’re comparing yourself to someone who’s been in their business for 10 years and wondering why they’re making millions and you can barely pay your rent, think about how much work they’ve had to put in to get to where they are.  Think of how much they’ve had to build their reputation and ‘know, like, trust’ factor to have 1m followers on Instagram.

Everyone starts at 0.

But what about those online businesses that you KNOW only started a few months ago and are already fully booked with clients and making the kind of money you can only dream of?  They’ve done the work too.  Maybe it seems like they haven’t done the work in their shiny new, super successful business but I promise you, they’ve done the preparation.

Maybe those seemingly lucky individuals have spent years studying the best marketing secrets, maybe they have a top class business degree or MBA, or maybe, like me, they’ve had many successes and ‘failures’ with previous businesses and have done (and continue to do) all the self-development and external work needed to build a successful business and a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

Some are able to speed up the curve by copying those who have gone before, working with mentors and masterminding with those who know how to bridge the gap between where they are and where they desire to be, but no one who can do the work for you.

There are systems, structures and tools that will allow you to work smarter, not harder and help you to accelerate your success and avoid burnout but we’ll talk about that in another post…

Personally, I’ve been in and out of business for the last 10 years.  I had some success with previous businesses and have made plenty of mistakes and had plenty of learning experiences. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m still not where I desire to be, I don’t have a multi-million $ empire – yet!  And I desire to be of much higher service and make a much bigger positive impact during my time here.  But I am making more than I ever have before in my current (passion) business, I have more freedom, I am able to travel more and enjoying the life that I have created, that I am creating.

I am able to do all of the above because I didn’t skip the work – after 10 years of business experience I have learned a thing or two and I continue every day to learn, grow, tweak and refine.

I started Bodhi Babes in 2014 and so I am still nursing this baby out of infancy and into business childhood.  I know that this business will be a huge success, because of the work I’ve put in to get her here.  The ‘mistakes’ I made in previous businesses, in my life.  I am where I am today because of all that’s come before.  And where I am today is very much on the journey.  Enjoying the journey.  The present.  Now.

For me success lies is enjoying the journey and creating a business and life that feels good to me. Which will be completely different for you.  It is completely different for everyone.

  • So what does success mean to YOU?
  • What would feel good in your business and life?

Start there, work back from that and do the work.

Forget what everyone else is doing, put your blinkers on, stay in your own lane and be of high service to your tribe.  Follow what lights you up, keep taking the next right actions and make sure you make lot of time for you, fun, friends family, r&r and joy – that’s why we do this right?!

Keep showing up and doing YOU!  We need your unique gifts and message that only you have.  You’re doing a great job!

“Trust the process.”

Wishing you all the ‘success’ and joy on your journey.

x Louise

#WonderWomanWednesday With Nicky Raby

Meet our Wednesday Wonder Woman, Nicky Raby.

Actor, Coach, Writer, Speaker, Presenter, Blogger – a ‘mulit-passionate entrepreneur’ with a big Northern heart and contagious positive, creative energy.  Nicky is a wonderful coach and true inspiration, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck or you’re just not sure where to begin, in your business or life.

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to use my imagination. The majority of my games indulged my acting side- running my own shoe shop from my bedroom, face painting, creating dens and mainly wearing a shell suit and a triple luminous scrunchie high pony tail.. welcome to the 80’s ladies!

What do you do now? For work? For fun?

For work I have blended my passions so my working week consists of acting, coaching, writing, speaking, presenting and blogging. I knew from an early age that I was never going to fall into one category- as Marie Forleo advocates, I am a multi passionate entrepreneur.
For fun, much of my time is spent with friends and family, but I am equally comfortable in my own company- reading, taking a yoga class or pottering. Good food, wine and conversation feature highly but that can be in the form of a pub lunch/walk in the woods/a bar with space to dance or at home on the sofa with the telly, films and blankets.

How did you get into your area of expertise?

I went to drama school when I was 18 and moved down to London. I have almost spent half my life in London which is quite a feat for a Northern girl! I trained for 3 years and was lucky enough to land work and an agent straight away so hit the ground running. In the years following, I have been figuring it out and focusing on what I know rather than what I don’t. The acting industry can be notoriously unpredictable so in the meantime, I have always kept myself inspired and feeling creative- this has been key for me.

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

Obstacles always like to pop up and I’m sure will continue to do so but as I have got older I deal with them so much better and embrace the challenge. Competition is rife in the acting world so I have learnt to stay in my lane and focus on what I am doing and try to ‘do my best’ every time. If I give my best, my best will be remembered. It can be exhausting trying to squeeze yourself into a mould that doesn’t fit, so I focus on being the best version of me. This lesson has been useful as I have combined my passions.

In terms of my work as a business owner, everyone has wobbles. Everyone can doubt their abilities at certain points or feel like they haven’t got it all figured out. I learnt to breathe in all those challenges, struggles and low points as they have now become part of who I am today and it is all a learning experience.

What’s the best part of what you do?

I love being self employed and being in charge of my own destiny. Creativity runs through everything I do and I love that I can be creative everyday. I love my community that I interact with daily and working collaboratively on projects. There is no greater feeling in business than having a scrap of an idea, working hard and being able to make it happen

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

Just start as there is never going to be a perfect time. You are never going to feel fully prepared. Get clear on what you want to achieve and take steps every day that are going to take you closer.

What’s your morning routine?

I am an early riser and mornings for me are all about creativity and writing. I wrote my book, ‘Be Ready for your Lucky Break’ during the early hours of the morning as this was the time I ‘felt the flow’ as it were. I take a few minutes to wake and check in with myself. How am I feeling? What did I dream about? What have I got on that day? Then I say something positive in my head to start me in the right frame of mind. Food and drink call quickly- gallons of tea, orange and a healthy breakfast and a green juice if working from home. I really try to fuel myself up for the day with energy food- nothing worse than a ‘hangry’ Nicky.  I like to do some stretching or an early morning walk with a podcast or audio book- there are so many great green spaces in North London and we take full advantage of them.

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

Order a food processor. I am on a bit of a mission at the moment to cut down on my sugar intake as I am such a sugar fiend, so looking to make some healthy alternative snacks. I always write a tasks list for the work day- emails, clients, writing time, social media, blogging…the list goes on so need to crack on with that. Plus order an online shop. This has changed my life- so simple but so effective. Do it, you won’t regret it.

What are you working on at the moment? Next project?

I am working on an online course for entrepreneurs and continuing to build and grow my coaching business. I am writing a second book and a 6 part drama for women with my writing partner.

One woman you admire and why?

Drew Barrymore. She blends so many projects; acting, producing, directing, photography, a make up line, a business owner and being a Mum. All of which she seems to do with a ‘I’ll figure it out’ attitude. She isn’t afraid to enter new divisions and keeps pushing herself to learn and make it happen.

Three wishes?

Health for myself and family.  To always trust myself and have belief that I can do whatever I set my mind to.  For others to truly create their lives on their terms and to not ignore negative, unhelpful voices but to push through and really go for it.

Who do you turn to for advice?

My mum. She is so wise, practical and balanced in what she says. Plus she is very solution orientated, so a quick chat can guide you out of ‘fuzzy-headed confusion’ to finding a way to solve it.

Who do you turn to for a shoulder to cry on?

My partner Matt. He is hilarious and knows me inside out. He can quickly snap me out of that mood, but he is a great listener. Plus man hugs and tea/wine/cocktail go a long way.

Favourite book?

I don’t have one particular favourite, I call upon many in different times and for different needs. My bookshelves are stacked though so there is always something to read – I share the reviews of my favourites on my Facebook page

Favourite movie?

Too difficult to choose….

Favourite childhood game?

Imaginary play plus my dressing up box = hours of fun

Fantasy career? Why?

More of the same, please. I want to keep building on what I have created and learning so I can reach more people.

Words for motivation?

If you do nothing, nothing will change. If you do something, something might.

#FeelGoodFriday song?

Beyonce- Crazy in love

Favourite quote?

“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!” Audrey Hepburn

Thanks so much Nicky!
