Wednesday Wonder Woman – Bunmi Aboaba

I am thrilled to introduce today’s #WednesdayWonderWoman Bunmi Aboaba, founder of Crystal & Rox and Dental Surgeon.  After a challenging time in her life Bunmi used the healing power of crystals and yoga to regain balance and harmony.  Bunmi founded Crystal & Rox to help other women do the same and has designed a range of yoga clothing with a concealed pocket in the yoga tops, to keep crystals close to your heart during practice.

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Ha ha , I wanted to be an Architect and own a swish Jazz club for some reason.  Everything had to be larger than life in my day dreams, so own my own designer  properties all over the world, have a self built Yacht and cruise around the Mediterranean  doing business deals on it.

What do you do now?  For work?  For fun?

I am a Dental Surgeon by profession.  For fun I like to write. Have written a book called High Vibe.  I love to read , especially books relating to Spirituality.  Love Salsa dancing .  Love hanging out with friends , brain storming, laughing , connecting.  I enjoy the Practice of Reiki (am Reiki master) and my all time fave, Crystal healing, collecting Crystals etc.

How did you get into your area of expertise?

With Crystal & Rox, I got into the realms of the mineral kingdom by chance.  Through a challenging Divorce and other life circumstance that I can only describe as self-destructive.  Crystal healing 2008 by Shaman Anna Coates ,who is now my dear friend helped me to achieve balance and alignment through very tough times.  After that my belief and passion in Crystal healing was cemented .

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

The biggest obstacle in following my dreams was fragile self belief and self esteem. Feeling that I didn’t have the courage to follow it through. Especially when people used to look at me and say “Stick to Dentistry” “ stick to your day job”.  But through the power of prayer , Crystals , Reiki and hanging out with like minded, inspirational people, I was able to see that what I had was remarkable and to be proud of it and own it, and nuture and cherish it.  Not listening to nay sayers and skeptics who are too scared to follow their own dreams.  I am “Can do “ personality and I encourage that in my friends.  Today I feel proud of who I am and what I have overcome and achieved. I believe in me and that’s what counts.

What’s the best part of what you do?

The best part of what I do is working with crystals which is my passion and getting the awareness out there that crystals are for everybody. Demystifying them and bringing them slowly but surely into the public arena in a fun and exciting way.  Also finding more and more avenues in which crystals can be used.

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

Believe in yourself. Ignore the critics because whatever ideas you have that feel really good to you are divinely inspired. Your gut feeling is your radar and most often than not accurate. Learn to be out of your comfort zone . Being out of your comfort zone brings you new ways of looking at things and opportunities ..its exciting.  We all have something to contribute to the world and help others .

What’s your morning routine?

The first moment I wake I say the Lord’s prayer and ask for a really peaceful day.  As I lay in bed I would do a 10 min Reiki self –treatment and visualize all the lovely things that can happen in the day.  After which and would get up and pull a card out of one of five angel card reading packs and that’s my guidance for the day. Probably mediate on this for s few minutes.  Get the boys up and ready , and then off to work.

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

  • To write up my crystal tips for my bi monthly news letter.
  • Write up a business proposal to a potential share holder
  • Have a skype meet with a PR guru and how to create impact in the press.

One woman you admire and why?

Oprah Winfrey. Amazing women.  Came from a background that could only be described as horrendous . To be able to come out of that and shine her light and create the most awesome business is awesome. Huge self belief and a good sound head is what got her to where she is today. Again like myself she had to create her self belief.

Three wishes?

  • For my children , family and friends to carry on being healthy and happy.
  • For Crystal & Rox to be the “ go-to” site for wellbeing and be well respected as an authentic and aligned business.
  • To have the most amazing retreat with amazing holistic healers on board.

Wednesday Wonder Woman – Ollie Neveu

I love everything about today’s #WednesdayWonderWoman, writer and fur mama and all round beauty – Ollie Neveu. Ollie has dedicated her life to help guide people to understand and reconnect to animal wisdom, to lead a more joyful, loving and kind life, healing ourselves and our beautiful animals.

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a vet because I loved animals! I had it all planned out, I was going to work in a building made of green glass and shaped like a turtle. Still kind of want to make that building a reality…

What do you do now?  For work?  For fun?

After a few years headed in the wrong direction, I am now a writer (and a fur mama). I help people connect back to animals and their furry guru wisdom as a way to find joy and peace in their lives – I reckon they are the best spiritual teachers out there! My fun time involves hanging out with my Guru Greyhound Neve in one of London’s parks or anything involving chocolate.

How did you get into your area of expertise?

A few years back my whole life came to a standstill (literally, my body stopped moving). I had been going down this path of fear, doing what I thought I was supposed to do and completely ignoring my heart. The next two months were spent on the couch recovering, and I was brought back to life by watching pug videos on Youtube (true story). From there I ended up adopting Neve, moving to the country and reconnecting to animals, nature and my own heart.

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

Learning to listen to my own heart and stop listening to what others think is going to make a ‘good life’ for me. I was terrified of letting everyone down when I quit my old fear based career as an accountant. But I soon learnt that those who truly loved me, just wanted me to be happy and healthy (which I definitely wasn’t while working in that job). One of the greatest lessons I have learnt from dogs to stop taking life so damn seriously, and with that kind of mindset, most obstacles just melt away.

What’s the best part of what you do?

Waking people up to the part of themselves that they have shut away. We all have this natural connection with animals and nature, but in our modern western society so many adults end up closing themselves off from animals. When I am able to validate the deep feelings that someone holds for animals, and allow them to give themselves permission to open their hearts back up, it is a beautiful thing.

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

Make joy your number one priority. Your body is your best GPS system. Follow your heart.

What’s your morning routine?

Morning cuddles with Guru Dog Neve and my Ratty cat. Lots of water. Intention setting. Meditation.

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

1- Get outside!

2- Do the dishes ( I’m one of those charmingly messy creative people)

3- Write write write

What are you working on at the moment?  Next project?

I am currently writing a book and creating some awesome online programmes to help people connect to animal wisdom.

One woman you admire and why?

I met a woman recently who has been involved in animal rescue for 70 years! To dedicate basically your whole life to saving and improving the lives of animals is hella baller in my books.

Three wishes?

  • May all beings everywhere be happy and free

  • To live a joyful life.

  • Visiting hours at the rainbow bridge.

Who do you turn to for advice?

My husband.

Who do you turn to for a shoulder to cry on?

My cat Ratty. He is the best listener and is SO fluffy. Excellent cuddles.

Favourite book?

Animal Wisdom – Linda bender.

Favourite movie?

The Lion King.

Favourite childhood game?

Monopoly!

Fantasy career? Why?

Buyer for Anthropologie – hunting the world for beautiful items to fill a home sounds amazing

Words for Monday motivation?

Every moment is a fresh start

#FeelGoodFriday song?

Dont Stop Till You Get Enough – Michael Jackson

Favourite quote?

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

Wonder Woman Wednesday – Vix – New Age Hipster

Ah, what a gorgeous breath of fresh air today’s #WonderWoman is.  I loved reading this and know you will too. Meet Vix, founder of New Age Hipster…

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little I wanted to be a pop star, or more specifically, Kylie Minogue. I wanted to start out on Neighbours or Home and Away and then move into a music career followed by staring in musicals on the West End. You could say I’ve always had a desire to be shiny!

What do you do now?  For work?  For fun?

I’m an intuitive Tarot and Angel Card reader and creator of New Age Hipster. I help people navigate through their lives by shining some light on the areas they can’t see clearly themselves and give them an insight into what may happen in the future if they continue down a certain path. I write YA novels about time travel and destiny, I shop at charity shops and I collect crystals and card decks. I make YouTube videos and I love catching the latest YA novel turned film at the cinema with a huge bucket of popcorn, or watching old 80’s movies at home with a massive plate of veggie nachos, my bf and Zorro, my gorgeous grumpy old rescue cat.

How did you get into your area of expertise?

I have always wanted answers. When I was a kid I used to create my own systems of divination – little pieces of paper with yes or no on them put into a bag or the old yes and no written on each side of my eraser. In my early twenties I bought my first Tarot deck and it was like coming home. I’ve only been reading professionally for about a year, but it feels like I’ve been doing it for lifetimes, I probably have! New Age Hipster started off as a little blog where I’d share spiritual tips in a fresh, new, quirky kind of way, and now I’m offering intuitive readings and selling magical sprays and e-books too. How did I get into this? I just followed my guidance I guess. I got off the couch and started making things happen.

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

I used to be a chronic procrastinator. When I began to tune in and start actually doing what I was being guided to do, things began to change. I began to ignore that voice that said – “You aren’t special enough, smart enough, pretty enough, spiritual enough or good enough to do anything great,” and I started paying more attention to the one that said – “oh, yes you are”!

What’s the best part of what you do?

Making a difference in someone’s life, whether it’s due to some serious unblocking, a change in perspective or just being that other voice that tells them what they already knew deep down. I kind of see what I do as being like a spiritual service station. When people have been on the path for a while but aren’t sure if they are on the right road, or just need a break they pop in and see me. I give them some advice for the road ahead, quicker ways, easier ways, tips for how to navigate the rough bits, fill up their petrol and I stock them up with snacks of course! If they need me again further down the path I’ll be there too, because I’m a magical spiritual service station! I just love being able to help people and make people happy.

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

Starting your own business is damn hard work. I had visions of myself walking around the house in fuzzy slippers and doing phone readings in-between my favourite day time TV shows, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. I had no idea that I would have to learn so much and do so much just to get my website working and help people find it! Social Media, YouTube, Facebook for business, branding, marketing, creating cool images, advertising… it’s all been an intense learning curve for me and there is still so much I am learning.

But it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Starting your own business really is the best personal development program there is. All of your own emotional stuff comes up and you begin to have more of a sense of who you are then you ever have before, and you know what? You’ll probably find out you are way more awesome than you thought you were.

What’s your morning routine?

I’m usually up somewhere between five and six – I never used to be an early riser but it’s amazing how much more you can get done when you start cracking a few hours earlier! I make a decaf tea and get back in bed to make a to do list or, if I’m feeling pretty confident about where the day is headed I’ll spend half an hour reading whatever spiritual book is by my bed, right now it’s Light is the New Black by the gorgeous Rebecca Campbell. Then I try to do half an hour of yoga most days, ground, clear and protect myself for the day ahead and then it’s straight to the laptop where I lose myself for a few hours in whatever I’m working on – blogging, emails, social media, checking on the Etsy shop and my YouTube comments. Most days I post a daily reading to Instagram too. Eventually I have a shower which is me time. I always talk to my guides and angels in the shower to say thanks and let them know what I’m thinking about and would like help with.

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

  • A huuuuuuuuge email reading for a client; I’m going to use about eight different decks, it’s going to be mega!
  • Do a long meditation. I pulled two out of three Angel cards this morning that said ‘meditate’!
  • Uploading my weekly reading to YouTube.

What are you working on at the moment?  Next project?

OMG this is so exciting! I’m working on my first e-course! Eeeeeek! It’s going to be perfect for spiritual newbies, peeps who feel like they have some gaps in their knowledge of the basics, or anyone who’s just looking for a fresh take on things.

One woman you admire and why?

There are so many! I already mentioned Kylie so I’ll say Dolly Parton. She’s so successful but always seems so sweet and lovely. She’s living proof that you don’t have to be hell on heels to get ahead!

Three wishes?

  • World peace
  • End world hunger
  • A new Zelf for my collection

Who do you turn to for advice?

My own intuition is usually pretty good,  but it’s always good to hear a second voice on a big issue. When I need that I go straight to my boyfriend. He is the the ying to my yang and a very solid and dependable voice of reason when I’m off somewhere away with the Fairies. When I’m stuck in my idealistic big picture thinking he’s bringing me back to Earth and reminding me it’s bin night.

Who do you turn to for a shoulder to cry on?

Again, I have to say it’s the boyfriend, but if he’s not around I find just throwing myself on the floor and sobbing my heart out to the Universe is very therapeutic!

Favourite book?

Twilight. Not only did I adore the story, but it made me think maybe I could write a book too. Reading it was the catalyst to writing my own YA Paranormal novel. I used to be a High School English teacher so people usually expect me to list a bunch of classics when they ask me that question, but the truth is I loved Twilight. And I also love Sweet Valley High and I still pick them up and read them now, because why the hell not?

Favourite movie?

Xanadu. The most magical movie you will ever watch. It’s all about believing in your dreams and making them happen. On roller-skates. With a killer soundtrack.

Favourite childhood game?

Singing in front of the mirror with my hairbrush, My Little Pony and Barbies!

Fantasy career? Why?

Yeah, it’s still being Kylie Minogue, because – Kylie! Although I have to say I’d be pretty darn happy to keep doing this New Age Hipster thing with a plate of YA author on the side!

Words for Monday motivation?

Thank you for another day on planet Earth!

#FeelGoodFriday song?

Working for the Weekend, the 80’s classic by Loverboy. I dare you to listen to it and not at least tap your foot!

Favourite quote?

“Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Ferris Bueller.

Thanks so much Vix!

Love Yourself & Life Will Love You

I almost cried on stage the other night when one of my workshop attendees proclaimed to the group that she found it really difficult to think about anything she loved about herself, as she found it hard enough to think of anything she liked about herself.  This beautiful and witty woman (I’m guessing in her 60’s) made the whole group chuckle as she went on to pick apart her appearance and continued with how we feel worse the older we get.

“The more negative thoughts we focus on, the more the story builds and we barely have a leg to stand on, when we stand on trial, in front of our mirror jury of one and are immediately sent to the jail of not good enough!”

While she was funny and making light of it all, what she was telling us was her truth and my heart broke for her, for the years spent not realising or embracing her unique beauty and for all the many other women who feel the same, wasting so much energy scrutinising our appearances and trying to squeeze into an unrealistic beauty mold, set by an f’ed up patriarchal society and beauty/ advertising industries that pray on our insecurities.

I spent many years in comparrison overwhelm, speaking to myself unkindly and seeking aproval from others and while I am by no means immune to it all now I decided a long time ago that I was going to re-direct my attention to postive thoughts and affirmations, learning to love myself and appreciate the unique beauty we ALL have.  It’s not always easy and I suspect a lifelong practice and commitment but we only have this body and relatively short life in this form, so surely it’s better to practice focussing on all the great things about ourselves and feeling greatful for all we have?!

We are much more affective if we feel good – if we start with kindness and compassion for ourselves, we are able to offer much more to others and be of higher service in the world.  We invite others to treat us the way we feel about ourselves too – our energy is visable and introduces us before we do.

Confidence, is an energy and is ultimately wrapped up in how we present ourselves, which is linked to how we feel about ourselves.

I don’t believe anyone ever feels 100% confident (we’re only human after all) but we can commit to treating ourselves with the same love and respect we wish for our loved ones and in practicing positivity and gratitude we can learn to like ourselves, then love ourselves more.

There’s no time but the present!  It’s especially vital for us to lead by example and share positive body confidence with our children.

Here are 5 ways you can begin practicing self-love today:

1- Positive Affirmations & Gratitude

Our subconcious doesn’t differentiate between true and false, it simply believes  everything we feed it as fact and files it away, to be brought up to back up a matching thought later.  So you can see how easy it is to get sucked into negative thought patterns – the more negative thoughts we focus on, the more the story builds and we barely have a leg to stand on, when we stand on trial, in front of our mirror jury of one and are immediately sent to the jail of not good enough!

Be mindful of your inner monologue.  If you catch yourself thinking anything negative, be kind, forgive yourself and replace it with a positive thought about yourself or with something you’re grateful for.  Gratitude is always a good place to start as it’s impossible to also be negative if we focus on what we’re grateful for.  Also try using positive affirmations, even if you don’t believe them at first- remember, our subconcious doesn’t know the difference – our ethos at Bodhi Babes is: Brave, Bold, Beautiful – try saying I am Brave, I am Bold, I am Beautiful anytime you need a bit of a confidence boost or need to interrupt negative thoughts about yourself.

3- Nourish Yourself

As well as being mindful of toxic thoughts, it’s also important to be mindful of what other poisons we’re feeding ourselves.  Everything that goes into our bodies, minds and comes into contact with our skin is absorbed by our cells and affects the way we feel, mentally and physically.  So, the more natural, wholefoods and vitamin filled, plant based products we use the better, to support our bodies in performing at an optimal level.

4- Move!

Exercise will help you look and feel your best. Movement is also great to get you out of your head and into your body… you’ll soon find out how you’re feeling once you get moving. If you’re feeling stuck, down or sad, head out the door for at least a 10 min walk and you’ll feel so much better!
For maximum benefits get outside for some vitamin D and fresh air. There are loads of great outdoor fitness classes available and many offer a free trial. Google what’s on in your local area.  Meetup is also a great way to find fitness groups, which are often cheaper and sometimes free.

If you’re not ready for a class just yet, a regular brisk walk in the park will do wonders for your mood and figure! If you’d like a companion, why not offer to walk someone’s dog for them: www.borrowmydoggy.com

Walking is also a great way to catch up with friends… ditch the tea and cake and get moving ladies!  OK, tea and cake is sometimes needed too!

4- Find Your Tribe

“We are a combination of the 5 people we spend most time with.”

The people we spend our time with influence how we behave and feel, so we had  better choose wisely!  Maybe it’s time for an audit of the people you spend time with? Which arrangements do you make that you don’t really want to?  Which people are draining your energy?  Be mindful of how you spend your time and who with.

“Magic happens, when women come together for a common purpose.  When women support one another, we are a force to be reckoned with!”

5- Connect With Nature

I jumped on to Periscope last night (something I’m still getting used to) and asked my lovely audience what things they did for self-care and to help them feel good about themselves and lots of great things came up, including: massage, meditation and my favourite – walks in nature.  I always feel great after time in nature, whether that’s a walk with my dog, Troy, running through fields or SUPing.  It’s really grounding and a wonderful way to get some peace.  So even if it’s just 10 mins on the grass at your local park, take some time to unplug and reconnect in nature today.

I’d love to hear what helps you to feel good about yourself, please let us know in the comments below.
